The embarrassing thing is, back then I was skipping past most of those guys who were black and Asian. My own history of sexual desire is a history of change – I grew up where it was actually pretty rare to see anything but white people, which I believe shaped much of my young gay life. It wasn’t until later that I understood that desire is fluid; what turns you on at 25 may not do it when you’re 40.

Foolish Thing Desire: For gay men, the intersection of sex and race brings out the worst in a small number of people, who then make headaches for everyone else: Opinion section: Metro Weekly magazine, Washington, DC newspaper

Even in food, our tastes develops over time. There are people who want to try all types of different food and then figure out what they like. There are people who simply refuse to try any new food other than what they grew up eating as a child.

I wonder if dividing voting districts along lines of race and creed is a good thing?

Quote from the article:

But that isn’t stopping L.A. communities from fighting for unity/homogeny. Like in the state- and countywide redistricting battles, race has come to the forefront of the argument — with some minorities insisting that in order to be fairly represented by their local politicians, the lines of their official districts need to represent the natural lines of their neighborhoods.

After generations of sacrifice and organization, gay people in parts of the world have won protection from discrimination and relationship recognition. But these changes have given rise to a nefarious phenomenon: the co-opting of white gay people by anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim political forces in Western Europe and Israel.

I think the argument is so wrong.

The intolerance advocated by the religion is the what Western Europe is rejecting: they don’t reject race or immigration.

I’m sure, if the immigrants abandon their religions or at least be willing to be tolerant of others (other races, religions, and sexual orientations), they won’t face so many anti-immigration backlash.
